Dan received a Bachelor’s Degree and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Dan’s advisor, Dr. Wilbur Gould, was a true icon in the processing and quality of Ohio’s main horticultural products in the 70s and 80s. With Dr. Gould’s guidance, tomatoes, beans, corn, cabbage and a variety of lesser crops were processed in the O.S.U. pilot plant; this research focused on maximizing product quality and evaluating new cultivars developed by University plant breeders. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Food Processing, Dan focused on Food Technology and graduated with a Ph.D. in 1983.
“I could not begin to estimate how many varieties and tons of products we processed in the Food Science Pilot Plant at Ohio State over the 5 years I worked there,” said Dr. Daniel Wampler.
Following graduation, Dan conducted research at Pillsbury’s Green Giant Division on numerous horticultural products with a focus on improving the quality of the company’s frozen vegetable line. He enhanced his strong technical skills at Tastemaker and its legacy companies. Dan’s experience at Tastemaker, a pioneer in the development of natural flavors, gave him the opportunity to learn more about natural products, and the methods and the technologies used to remove the flavor from many horticultural products.
After 15 years in the food products industry, Dan was compelled to create a company that provided high quality natural flavor materials to the food and beverage industry. Today, Sensus has become the premier natural products extraction company serving the industry. While guiding Sensus to record revenue and profit growth in 2009, he continues to invest in his vision with compelling results.
